Which courses should I take?

Please first check information given on the courses page. If you have any further questions at all, please do not hesitate to email [email protected].

Do you have English language requirements for non-native English speakers?

For MA students, if your first language is not English, or if you have not been educated wholly or mainly through the medium of English, we normally require an IELTS score of band 6.5 (with a minimum 6.0 in all components) or an equivalent in another system, such as a TOEFL score of 573 (paper test) or 90 (computerised test). Click here for more details. Consider taking our two week English for ETP course if you need to bring your level up a little before starting your training with us. For non MA students, we exercise more discretion but still expect a standard that corresponds to at least IELTS 6.0 average.

Is there any age restriction for attending your courses?

You must be 18 years of age or over.

Who qualifies for the subsidised fee rate?

If you are a member or an applicant of SIL or an affiliated or related organisation, such as a Wycliffe organisation, you qualify for the subsidy.

Can I just audit a course?

It is possible to audit some of the courses (but not, for example, Learning that LASTS). Our auditing policy means that you may attend sessions but you do not receive handouts or other course materials or take part in any assignments. Auditing fees are £12 per day or £8 per day at the subsidised rate.

I am coming with my spouse and our children. What can I expect to pay?

We will aim to provide you with a small flat or apartment. The apartment will include bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. You will therefore have the option of providing your own food rather than taking meals in the refectory. The monthly cost of such an apartment is around £800 inclusive of heating, hot water and electricity but exclusive of phone charges. Please note that if you stay for more than 3 months in an apartment, the Wycliffe Centre will charge you an additional fee of £100 to cover cleaning etc. The apartments have a telephone, but no internal network connection points. In addition to the charge for the apartment you will pay the 'tuition only' fee for whatever courses you take. You will also have to cover food expenses.

When should I plan to arrive?

Please be sure to be here for starting your course at 8.30am or thereabouts on Monday morning. (Note that the Learning that LASTS course usually starts with an evening meeting on the Sunday.) If you are staying on Campus you are welcome to arrive on the Saturday or Sunday beforehand at no extra charge, but make sure you arrive after 08:00 and before 22:00. Please inform the registrar of your day and time of arrival.

When should I expect to leave?

Most courses finish by lunch time on the Friday. Shorter courses may continue into Friday afternoon. Your course fee does not include accommodation for that Friday night or beyond. If you require board and lodging beyond Friday lunch time, you will need to book this at Reception.

How do I get to your campus?

Please follow the travel directions page. If coming by bus from High Wycombe, you may like to note that you need to get off at the second stop in Studley Green, the St Francis Road stop. You will then have to walk about 300 metres down the road signposted to Horsleys Green. The Centre is on your left.

Midday Meal   £7.50   £3.50
Evening Meal   £4.50   £2.50

What's the difference between the full board option and the lunch only option?

The full board option at ETP UK

The full board option includes three meals a day, served in the refectory at the Wycliffe Centre. Both midday and evening meals are cooked and the midday meal always includes a salad, in addition to the main course and dessert. Breakfast is a lighter meal of tea and coffee with cereals and toast.

The lunch only option at ETP UK

This information applies only for courses of two weeks or longer.

An alternative to the full board option is the lunch only option. Under this option, you will have use of a small on-site kitchen to prepare breakfast and a light evening meal. But do bear in mind, there are no shops within easy walking distance and the kitchen offers very limited storage facilities.

You should indicate which option you are choosing on the application form.

Please note:

In order to buy your training package exempt of tax, you need to book your whole package (training, accommodation and meals) at the same time. We need to point out that once you arrive on campus, it will not be possible to change your options and still have the tax exempt rates. However, if you stay on for another course, it is usually possible to change your arrangements at the start of the new course.

Your course booking starts with the evening meal (if you have booked it) on the Saturday before a Monday morning course start. It ends with lunch on the Friday at the end of the course or series of courses.

Can I have my course fee refunded if I leave early?

If you decide to withdraw from a course, you should notify the Registrar in writing.  You may also make a written request for a refund of fees for the remaining whole weeks of the course. However, you should note that you may be liable to pay for the week(s) that you have been here at the unsubsidised rate and any food that you bought as part of an original tax exempt course package will be charged to you inclusive of VAT (UK sales tax). MA students may also have to pay a registration fee.

What will happen if you need to cancel a course that I have already registered for?

The ETP reserves the right to cancel a course if, for instance, numbers registered are insufficient. We will refund any fees received in advance, but will not be liable for any other costs incurred by prospective course participants.
